Project 3- The 3D Model

I have brought my 3D model from the school shop and now have to clean it. When i first got i i thought it wasn't my model as it was covered it a hard gel but i then realised it was inside as this was a protection gel, embarasing. I start pulling the gel away gently then using a toothpick get into the edges of my model to take it out of the small area, what an effort. I then soak my model in  a 2% Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) aqueous solution to soften the gel. I left the model in the solution for about an hour taking it out regularly and scraping the gel of with a tiny metal wire.

Finally it it clean and gel free! I decided to keep the model the colour it is (clear with a slight cream tinge making it slightly less transparent) because it suits the idea of being antlers and i want to take the photo of it on a dark background to relate to my presedents. Here is my final Hi-Resolution image of my model:

Here are some other images of various sides of my model:

Project 3 - Final Render

This is my final render of my three 3DS models. I fixed up the material plenty of times so it was exactly what i wanted and spent a lot of times making tiny adjustments to the positions of the models so that the layout was natural and effective.

Project 3 - Rendering Progress

I have chosen the 3 model  I want to render. The reason i chose these three are because they are the ones that are the most different from each other.
The following are some progress images I saved while doing my rendering:

These are the models i used and the layout i creates. I have made it appear as if each model is coming closer to you. Obviously the one the front it my final model as it is the biggest and closest one.

I
This images shows my adjusting the background and material. I chose a soft creme coloured material called mansory that was appealing to me as when it rendered it looked like the colours antlers could be. The background i chose was a photo pf some gravel. I darkens the images and edited it in photo shop and added it. The reason i chose this was because i wanted a dark background to make the models stand out and to link it to my precedents.

This is an image of my rendering in progress.
This is one of my renders that is close to what i want but I don't exactly like the brightness of the material. I want the models to blend into the background more naturally.

Project 3-Finished Model (Computer)

Here are my final models that i created. Some of them are reasonable similar though they have a variety of different texture e.g, some have sharp edges and other have smooth edges.

This is the model i choose to get printed:

I liked this one the best because it was easily the most intereting and less repetative, It was quite different on each side you look at e.g one side is more like antlers and then there are two sides where the antler shapes overlap creating a square shaped(linked to my presedent of the patter drawing). The sharp edges most suited my precedents and was most suited to the idea i wanted to get across.

Before i could hand in my file there was a few things a have to adjust.
Firstly i have to make sure the size was correct, it has to fit inside a 30x30 cube. So to check this i created a cube that size on 3DS Max and placed it over my model. I then adjusted the size of my model to that you could not see it sticking it out of the cube. Perfect!

Secondly, I have to make it a STL format so that the 3d printer could read it. To do this i first had to check the file for errors using the 'STL check modifier' on 3DS Max. This modifier checked my model for errors including the following:
1. Open edges
2. Double Edges
3. Spikes

4. Multiple Edges

When i check it it ends up having 6 errors. Turns out I have gaps/holes in my model which means some parts are not touching correctly. To fix this I make a small sphere and placed i directly inside the center of the model where you can't see it but it can touch all the parts so it can hold them all together.

I am now all ready to hand im my file for it to get 3D Printed.

Project 3 - Creating Of The Model

I have decided to only use 3ds max because i already have some good models i can use from my last projects and i also find this program a lot easier than solidworks.

I have decided to use parts of the following model to create my 3d model because I can find interesting ways to tessalate it to create a round ball shape.

I found it troubling how to repeat a certain model without doing it manual, so that it would be even. I searched on google to look into it and discovered arrays. I read up on how to use them and what they do and how i could change the different settings to customize my model to exactly how i want it to be. This was so helpful and was such an easy way to create what i wanted.

Project 3- Presedent Images

These are a few precedent images i found that inspired me and will help me create my 3d model on 3ds max.

Project 3- Intro

We have started our final project and this is the task:

Your goal is to conceptualize a theme that responds to some mode of “pattern”, and then
use this theme to develop a 3D printed form.
Your challenge is to build complexity into your designs in a way that exploits the nature of
3d printing. You will use your theme to explore the possibilities of various tools and
methods for 3d form generation. You are to produce 3 [three] refined digital models that
each fit within the dimensions of a 30mm cube, and select one of these to be printed on the
school’s Objet 3d printer.

Through my last two project used deer antlers as my main precedent. So for this project i decided to keep it the same.
